ENRICHED AIR NITROX DIVER

Enriched air, also known as nitrox or EANx, contains less nitrogen than regular air. Breathing less nitrogen means you can enjoy longer dives and shorter surface intervals.

In this program, you will learn new skills and increase your diving knowledge whilst learning how to safely plan and dive with enriched air mixtures of up to 40% oxygen

You can typically stay down longer and get back in the water sooner. No wonder many divers choose this as their very first specialty.

Take This Course if you want to
  • Be at least 12 years old
  • Be at least a certified Open Water Diver
  • Last dive not more than 6 months ago, otherwise a Refresher / ReActivate course is required.
  • Medically fit to dive, for safety, all participants must complete a brief medical prior to commencing the dive. If none of the listed conditions apply, you sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of them apply to you, as a safety precaution, a physician must assess the condition as it relates to diving and sign a medical form that confirms that you’re fit to dive, dated within the last 12 months. It’s a dry course which can be combined with 2 additional fun dives with Nitrox cylinders

FAQ

What is Nitrox?

In diving terminology, any mixture of nitrogen and oxygen where these two gases represent the major constituents of the gas mix, is termed Nitrox. Note that mixes which contain more than trace levels of other gases in addition to nitrogen and oxygen are not Nitrox. Air, which is what we breathe on land, is considered a Nitrox mix. Nitrox mixes which are hyperoxic (contain more than 21% oxygen) are variously known as Enriched Air and Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN or EANx). For the most part, sport divers will only be interested in hyperoxic Nitrox mixes.

How do you name a Nitrox Mix?

Originally, all Nitrox mixes were named using the nitrogen percentage to the left of the oxygen percentage, e.g., NOAA Nitrox I contained 32% oxygen and 68% nitrogen and was referred to as: Nitrox 68/32 or Nitrox68 for short.

If I am not Nitrox Certified can I still use Nitrox Gas?

No. Only properly trained and certified Nitrox divers can use enriched air.

What Does Nitrox Do?

In order to look at what nitrox does, we need to look more closely at the gasses involved. Scuba divers learn about the effects of nitrogen and oxygen in the body during their open water course.

Nitrogen slowly absorbs into the tissues of your body over the course of a dive. In order to prevent the bends, we must take care to safely get rid of the nitrogen before it can expand and form bubbles in our tissues as we ascend. We do this by ascending slowly, incorporating safety stops, and using dive tables or dive computers to work out how long we can safely stay at depth.

With EANx, some of the nitrogen is replaced with oxygen. Because the percentage is lower, nitrogen is absorbed into our tissues more slowly.

The result?

We can stay down longer! We can also enjoy shorter surface intervals because of the reduced volume of nitrogen in our systems and some divers claim it makes them feel less tired.

Nitrox sounds pretty perfect, right?

Does the certificate expires or has renewal feel?

No, the Advanced Open Water Diver Certificate does not have expiry date nor need to be renewed, however, you will need to keep diving very often to build up experience in diving and not to forget what you have learned during your course.

What can i do after i get certified?

After getting your certificate, you can browse large variety of dive specialties to enlarge your knowledge about different adventures of diving or you can always join Poseidon Dive Center dive club and have many privileges by becoming a member such as free dives for more information about our dive club CLICK HERE or simply book and join our usual weekends dives for fun under our supervision and guidance by PDC’s crew.
