REBREATHER

This is an exciting course, to enjoy the thrill of bubble free diving and to enroll in the Rebreather Diver course.

Do you think rebreathers are just for technical diving? Think again because the latest rebreathers are lightweight, easy-transportable units that use sophisticated electronics to simplify their use.

WHY YOU MIGHT WANT A REBREATHER

Long dive times: The biggest advantage of a rebreather is gas efficiency. A single fill of a small gas cylinder or cylinders and CO2 scrubber can last for anywhere from one to three hours, depending on which rebreather it is. Unlike open-circuit scuba, your gas duration on a rebreather is nearly independent of depth, so you could, in theory, spend all that time on the bottom.

Silence. Rebreathers exhaust few or no bubbles. You don’t hear that roar of exhaust bubbles, and neither do the fish. That allows you to get closer to marine life, which is why rebreathers are popular with professional photographers and some researchers.

Warm, moist breathing gas. The chemical reaction in the CO2 scrubber actually warms and humidifies your breathing gas. Diving with a rebreather does not give you that cotton-mouth feeling and doesn’t chill you as much.

Optimum gas mixture. The more sophisticated rebreathers constantly monitor the partial pressure of oxygen in your breathing mix. They can keep your PPO2 constant regardless of depth or exertion, or alter it on the fly for needs like decompression. The benefit can be less nitrogen uptake and faster offgassing–in other words, more bottom time with less DCS risk

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be at least a certified Open Water Diver
  • Be at least a certified Enrich Air Nitrox Diver
  • Have a minimum of 25 logged dives
  • Last dive not more than 6 months ago, otherwise a Refresher / ReActivate course is required.
  • Be a certified Enriched Air Nitrox Diver
  • Medically fit to dive, for safety, all participants must complete a brief medical prior to commencing the dive. If none of the listed conditions apply, you sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of them apply to you, as a safety precaution, a physician must assess the condition as it relates to diving and sign a medical form that confirms that you’re fit to dive, dated within the last 12 months. Rebreather Open Water Diver course is today the most complete and up to date program to efficiently train divers in the use of recreational closed circuit Rebreathers Type R and qualifies you to dive independently to a depth of 18 meters/60 feet and within no decompression limits, and to be able to safely bail out to open circuit at any time

COURSE OUTLINE

Knowledge development takes place through independent study and Instructor led prescriptive teaching, practical sessions in unit assembly and dive checks, and the course includes 6 training dives with a minimum time on the unit of 200 minutes and in-water skills cover clearing a flooded loop, monitoring heads-up display (HUD) and electronics, buoyancy and trim, switching to bail out, alternate air source use with another rebreather diver, and deploying a submersible marker buoy.

The PADI Rebreather Diver course goals are:

  • Prepare and predive check a Type Rebreather following accepted practices and the specific manufacturer’s requirements for the unit.
  • Dive with a Type Rebreather demonstrating effective buoyancy control, depth and time management and generally effective application of the dive skills taught in the course, or prerequisite to the course.
  • Perform post dive care and maintain a Type Rebreather following accepted practices and specific manufacturer requirements for the unit.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to problems and emergencies that occur during setup, diving or post dive.

This course builds on your PADI Rebreather Diver certification by expanding your knowledge, adding a bailout cylinder, and training you to dive as deep as of 30 meters/98 feet (40 meters/130 feet if you have a PADI Deep Diver certification). If you are not a certified Rebreather diver yet, no problem – we will get you on your way, just contact us via this web site. It is common to combine the PADI Rebreather & Advanced Rebreather diver into one great course.
