UNDERWATER NAVIGATOR
Be the diver everyone wants to follow and make your sense of direction legendary with the Underwater Navigator Specialty course.
You will learn how to use a compass and natural navigation techniques, estimate distance, how to leave and return to a designated point, plus basic navigation patterns. You will also be taught how to combine navigation techniques to enhance your diving experience. All of which hones your underwater observation skills, improves your dive safety and helps you to get the most out of every dive
When everyone’s buzzing about a reef or checking out a shipwreck, they’re having a great time – until it’s time to go back. Then they turn to you, because as an Underwater Navigator, you know the way back home!
- Improve your navigation skills
- Find the boat or shore without surfacing
- Learn natural navigation clues
- Lead other divers to safe return
- Enhance your observation skills
- Be at least 10 years old
- Be at least a certified Open Water Diver / Junior Open Water Diver
- Last dive not more than 6 months ago, otherwise a Refresher / ReActivate course is required.
- Medically fit to dive, for safety, all participants must complete a brief medical prior to commencing the dive. If none of the listed conditions apply, you sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of them apply to you, as a safety precaution, a physician must assess the condition as it relates to diving and sign a medical form that confirms that you’re fit to dive, dated within the last 12 months. THEORY
Digital / eLearning OR Traditional Classroom and Book:
During this program, you will learn
- How to estimate distance underwater
- How to follow irregular courses with the Nav-Finder
- How to “mark” or relocate a submerged object or position from the surface
- Natural navigation (without a compass)
- Navigation patterns
- Compass navigation
- Underwater map making
- Dive site relocation

For Traditional Classroom/Book option – Successful Classroom Time: 1 hour for 1 day
